UNDERSTANDING LONELINESS : Loneliness is not the inevitable by-product of being alone and is not caused by the absence of people or company.  One of the reasons I got into this field of work was because I could be lonely in a room full of people.  My journey has involved me realizing that it I was pushing people away, was unwilling to let people close (due to the fear of rejection and getting hurt) and that separation ultimately stemmed from losing connection with my Self.

Healing loneliness starts by acknowledging that there are many times during your daily life that you are alone without being lonely. This is very important to recognise because it means you are not a victim to whether people are around or not and it proves loneliness is not caused by something outside your control. Loneliness is a feeling you create whenever you are resisting being on your own and/or attached to having company, in any given moment. This create an inner conflict that can be calmed by taking your power back through actively choosing to be your own best company, right now, and being open to let love in whenever the opportunity arises in the future. You will find that when you are open, the invitations will come and you will be able to fully embrace and enjoy the next time you are in the company of other people.

UNDERSTANDING JEALOUSY :  Jealousy is joined at the hip with attachment and the belief that love, self-worth and success are found on the outside. If you believe that your love and/or security is found in someone else, then you will fear losing them. You may love them, but you will also fear them leaving. You will feel compelled to be protective of your partnership (or friendship) to an extreme level and find yourself needing to check their phone, not spend time with others or not allow them to even look at another person, for example. Or if you are jealous about the ‘better life’ other people are living, compared to your own, then you will experience a sense of lack in relation to how your life is. Comparison corrodes contentment and because we live in a world where there’s always someone that appears to have a better life than you, jealousy can limit your joy.

Healing jealousy therefore involves you finding love within your self and cultivating an attitude of gratitude. Be appreciative that the other person is choosing to be with you and focus on having fun together and connecting every day. Also, give love anytime you feel love lacking in your life. Love is something you feel when you give it. You don’t need to fear anyone leaving, ever, as love is always accessible from within you. When you really know this you will love with an open palm, discover that love is never lacking and there is no limit on the amount of love and joy you can experience and enjoy.

UNDERSTANDING GUILT : Guilt is commonly caused by inner conflict between a resistance to what you’ve done (or not done) and an on-going attachment to needing to have acted differently. We believe holding onto guilt helps us to not make the same ‘mistakes’ again in the future, however this is not the case. Guilt is harmful to health, keeps you connected to the past and increases the likelihood of you repeating the same actions. Why? Because what you resist persists, and what you are in conflict with, you remain connected to.

To heal guilt, forgive the ‘younger you’ for not knowing what you now know. Accept that you shouldn’t have known better because you couldn’t have known better because you hadn’t yet learnt what you know now. Appreciate that given the same circumstances again today you wouldn’t do the same as you did before, and have faith in your older and wiser self who can be guided by what you now know in your heart is the right way to be and act.

UNDERSTANDING HURT : Hurt is never caused by anyone else. I know this is a big statement to make so I invite you to remain open-minded. We live in a world where nobody has the power to emotionally hurt us. You see, you don’t feel hurt because of what someone has said or done, even if everyone would agree it was horrible or wrong. Hurt is caused by what you are doing within you, on your side of the fence, inside your own mind. You feel hurt because you are thinking about what’s happened and in doing so, you are ‘feeling your thinking’. It is the habit of feeling your inner thinking that creates the inner experience of hurt. 

It can be very empowering to recognise that nobody has the power to hurt you. That anytime you are hurt you have accidentally given your power away by thinking about what has been said or done. Becoming aware of your thoughts can help you to be the observer of your internal self-speak, not get so caught up in the 'hurtful story' and in doing so, free yourself from hurt. Make it a priority to be a calm and loving force for good in this world. Do you want to be right or do you want to be peaceful? If someone has acted in a ‘hurtful’ way, rise above the story by being willing to see them through compassionate eyes. Compassion is a combination of love and wisdom and is about not getting in the hole to 'suffer with the other person'. Instead, remain calm and caring by remembering that, if given the conscious choice, everyone would choose to experience peace, love and be happy. If someone you know doesn't know how to be peaceful, loving or happy, yet, then they need your compassion no criticism. 

Rise high into happiness by inwardly wishing them well on their path to peace.

UNDERSTANDING FEAR : Fear and anxiety are caused by temporary forgetting how powerful and resourceful you already are and by ignoring the fact that you’ve survived every challenging event or circumstance that’s ever happened during your entire lifetime. You can also give your power away to fear through the habit of not wanting to feel it. The moment you are willing to feel it, fully, you will find the fear is no longer controlling you and can actually be used as a highly productive positive force for good. 

Fear and anxiety can be very empowering emotions when you allow them to be present within you instead of trying to suppress them. Don't worry, you won't end up paralysed by fear if you are willing to feel it.  Quite the opposite. You will find that it is your resistance to feeling the fear that is paralysing and you can make better decisions and take action more effectively when you stop fighting the fear. Anxiety and fear can help you to focus and have the energy you need to heal, face whatever life brings and be successful. You want to breathe into the emotions (with slow deep breaths of equal duration in and out - allowing your diaphragm to relax). By letting the emotions be present within you body, you will feel empowered and energised and will be able to use the emotions to help you make progress in very positive and powerful ways.

UNDERSTANDING SADNESS : Sadness is often a result of unseen negative thinking. It is common to believe that we are sad because of some external event or set of circumstances. However, this is not necessarily the case. We feel whatever we are thinking about. So if you are engaging lots of thoughts that are negative, then that is how you will most likely end up feeling. With thoughts on the themes of lack, victimhood, comparison, unfairness, wrongness or ‘poor me’ tending to lead to feelings of sadness. 

To cultivate more happiness, you want to heal the habit of negative thinking by intentionally looking for abundance, fairness and rightfulness in daily life. If you are feeling sad, you might not feel like you can do what I'm suggesting, but it's important that you remember that the only moment you can choose to do it is, right now. Even small steps now will make a big difference in the longterm. One of the quickest and most effective ways to improve your focus is to choose to find things to praise about yourself, other people, life and/or the world (and in doing so develop and attitude of gratitude by choosing to be praiseful instead of critical). With the power of praise, the thing you were previously sad about don't need to change for you to feel better. You can immediately lift your mood and begin your journey back to joy... starting now!

UNDERSTANDING ANGER : Anger is a secondary emotion, which means, you don't tend to feel angry unless there are primary emotions present. These primary emotions are usually hidden under the anger and are often feelings of hurt, sadness or fear. Anger is therefore a protective strategy to push away what’s hurt you, made you feel sad or scared. Anger also requires a resistance to what’s happened due to a belief that things should have happened differently (i.e. the way you think it 'should'). 

To heal anger, don't let the angry feelings distract you from the underlying primary emotions of hurt, sad or scared. To resolve anger you want to explore how else the person, event or thing has made you feel. When you resolve the hurt, sadness or fear, then there will be no need to be angry any more. Yes, you might not agree with what's happened, but you will find you can remain calm and take whatever action is required.
